The objective of this research is to find impacts of free tradeagreement on CO 2 emissions from time series evidence of NAFTAcountries. The autoregressive distributed lag cointegration approach isused to estimate the long- and short-run relationship between CO 2emissions and economic growth variables such as income, energyconsumption and FTA. The results show that income and energyconsumptions have impacts on CO 2 emissions for all NAFTA countriesexcept income for CANADA. However, there is no statistical evidence ofdirect impacts of FTA on CO 2 emissions
자유무역협정의 발효가 실질적으로 CO 2 배출량에 어떤 영향을 주었는지를NAFTA 지역 사례를 시계열 분석을 통하여 살펴보았다. 이를 위하여 자기회귀분배시차 공적분 접근법을 이용하여 자유무역협정 및 경제성장과 CO 2 배출량간의 장 단기 영향을 분석하였다. 소득 및 에너지소비량은 캐나다의 소득 변수만을 제외하고 지역의 CO 2 배출량에 영향을 준 것으로 나타났다. 그러나NAFTA의 체결이 CO 2 배출량에 직접적인 영향을 주었는지에 대한 분석에서는통계적 유의성이 없는 것으로 나타나 NAFTA의 체결이 온실가스 배출에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다고는 볼 수 없었다. 이는 NAFTA에 따른 영향이 경제성장관련 변수의 영향에 반영되어 상쇄되었기 때문인 것으로 판단된다.
